If you are ‘most people’ then your home is one of the few places where you can genuinely relax and escape the hassles of daily living. Admittedly though, living in the same house for years can be quite boring and even depressing. The good news is that you don’t have to keep moving to fix this; there’s a more sensible solution i.e. remodeling your home. Here are a few simple tips and ideas.
Lighting
You may not be aware of this but lighting is one of the most important elements of interior decor. In addition to that, it has a significant effect on the general mood in any setting. Yes indeed, those lights you have in your living room could be contributing to the constant feelings of boredom, lethargy and stress. Also, if you have been getting crazy energy bills, your lights could be to blame. You will be happy to know that there are numerous energy-efficient lighting options that look absolutely great.
Repainting
It sounds pretty simple but you will be surprised at just how much you can improve the appearance of your home by repainting it. The secret lies in using the right colors in the different rooms. The living room for example should preferably be painted in bright colors (to keep things lively) whereas the bedrooms should be painted in cool colors as these are known to promote feelings of relaxation.
Photos
There was a time when taking a photo was a big deal because cameras weren’t easy to come by; not any more. Today virtually everybody owns a smartphone with a decent camera meaning that photos can be taken anywhere and at any time. One thing that has however not changed is the value of a good photo: that perfect moment, those beautiful memories preserved forever. A good idea therefore would be to add photos in various areas within your home. If you aren’t too fond of the whole idea of printing and framing pictures, don’t worry because you can use an electronic picture frame. In this case all you have to do is load your photos, mount the frame on a wall and thereafter start enjoying a slideshow of wonderful memories. If you go for this option you’ll only need one picture frame unlike the many you would have to get if you went the traditional way; so it’s definitely cheaper.
Plants
If you love nature then a good idea would be to add a few potted plants inside your home. One of the best places to put your plant pots is the window sill. There are many plant varieties that you can grow in this manner including pathos, spider plant, English wry and peace lily. It’s quite amazing how much plants can improve the aesthetics of an environment and with that, the general mood.
Shelves, cabinets, drawers
Another great remodeling idea is to add a few extra shelves, drawers and cabinets in the various rooms of your house. Be creative with this one; you can add cabinets on the kitchen walls, drawers under the beds, built in shelves in the garage etc. Having extra storage space in the house, especially in your kitchen, where you can put, for example, your favorite blender or your best juicer machine, is always a great thing.
